Who we are

Who we are

Founded in 2008 by local activists from diverse backgrounds, Tishreen is a non-profit and non-partisan civil society organization based in the Triangle region, which is home to about 300,000 Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel.
Tishreen aims to strengthen civil society and promote vibrant local leadership that will have an influential role in achieving social change in the Triangle region. Tishreen’s board and staff are united in their passion to promote civic engagement, strengthen local identity, and contribute to economic development in the region. Despite being a small organization, Tishreen has gained a reputation for professionalism and, through its successes, has inspired others to become agents of change.

Our Vision

Tishreen envisions a cohesive Arab society that is socially responsible, and endorses the values of democracy, pluralism, equality, and national identity. Tishreen aims to empower its community members to become socially active and involved, and to encourage their commitment to build a brighter future in the region.

Our Goals

  • To strengthen the capacities of local activists and civil society initiatives in their efforts to advocate for equality and social justice.
  • Promoting free and independent cultural expression as an engine for social change.
  • To promote equity, equality, and distributive justice, for the Arab residents of the Triangle region, with an emphasis on women, youth and young adults.
  • To reduce inter-communal violence by creating safe spaces of trust, promoting local activism, and raising awareness on violence prevention among youth and the general public.

Our Methodology

To achieve our objectives, Tishreen adopts the following strategies:
  • Empowerment and training programs that impart knowledge, skills and tools to promote civil and human rights, and influence public policies to achieve equality and social justice.
  • Organizational development and support for activist groups.
  • Building coalitions and forming partnerships to promote broad community goals, such as: women empowerment, local arts, and violence prevention.
  • Influencing public discourse: raising awareness to social issues through public campaigns.
