Tishreen Launches Young Political Leadership Project
June 2, 2021Tishreen Association concluded on May 2021 the first Triangle Film Festival, cinema that discusses social and political issues in general and women’s issues in particular. We concluded the festival at a time when the Corona pandemic is still overshadowing all aspects of life, strict health precautions were taken into consideration. The festival lasted for two months, hosted 8 different screenings of Palestinian, Arab and foreign films and documentaries, reflecting our social and political reality, by shedding light on different women’s and humanitarian issues.
The festival is based on Tishreen’s belief that women’s issues are one of the most important and vital humanitarian issues. Attaining equality between women and men and eliminating all forms of discrimination against women are fundamental human rights and United Nations values.
Gender-based violence is one of the most widespread, extreme, and devastating problems we face. It knows no social, cultural or national boundaries. It is a global phenomenon – and a global taboo.
Amongst the Arab Palestinians living in Israel , this universal taboo is preventing survivors from being vocal within the prevailing patriarchal culture. This further exacerbates gender inequality, and limits the restrictive roles of women within the domestic ambit.
Tishreen screened powerful movies for the first time in the Triangle Region that shine an interpretive light on the stories of real women: mothers, daughters, sisters, everyday revolutionaries, who often paid immense personal costs fighting for their right to live equally under the law.
It is worth noting that the Triangle Film Festival will be an annual event that opens in March of each year, and each year Tishreen will determine a new theme.
