August 21, 2020Since its inception, the town of Taybeh grew and expanded in circles around the old city. Outside these circles, on the southern outskirts of town, an industrial zone was established. In 1977, the Committee for the Custodian of Agricultural Lands established a quarry in the southern hills of Taybeh, which today is considered to be within the boundaries of the town’s industrial zone, consequently allowing the practice of agriculture in the remaining area of the land. Despite this land distribution and allocation, the designated agricultural land grew and developed, included different programs and various dynamics, and ended up turning into an industrial area as well. The area has grown and developed under Taybeh’s district, yet it includes completely different phenomena and features than that of the town.
Muna’s project, located in the industrial zone, examines the phenomenon of rapid and dynamic change which leaves large unused and randomly distributed areas within the town, and she proposes a solution to this fast spreading phenomenon. With the help of a dynamic building structure that allows for changes and addition, the project consists of modular units that provide the basic needs for creating different plans, and the dynamic structure contributes to adding work units when needed, thus introducing a variable and adjustable building that serves the goal and the area.
