The social, political ideological, and economic challenges affecting Taybeh and the triangle region at large, severely affect the lives of the youth generation. Lack of constructive activities for young people or opportunities for influence has created a vacuum that is often filled by less desirable behaviors.  Nevertheless, despite the difficult local circumstances, young adults from the region continue to demonstrate tremendous leadership skills, charisma and enormous potential to constructively engage in their communities.

Over the last few years we believe that there is enormous potential to both engage them as role models and to recruit other young leaders.  While these young activists may not succeed in addressing the entire spectrum of problems plaguing Taybeh, they can inject new energy, hope into the local context, and acquire the skills necessary for them to be change agents.

The Triangle region as a whole and Taybeh specifically suffer from a number of serious social, political, economic and communal failures.  Many of Taybeh’s social ills stem from a lack of meaningful activities and opportunities for children, youth and young adults.  Taybeh does not have even a single cinema or theatre, nor a functioning and publicly accessible community center, or even a sports center.  This creates a vacuum that is often filled by less desirable behaviors.  This is compounded by a general sense of helplessness in the city; avenues for change are limited and where they exist, they tend to be relatively ineffective.

Despite the difficult local circumstances, a number of young adults from Taybeh have demonstrated tremendous leadership skills over the last few years and we believe that there is enormous potential to both engage them as role models and to recruit other young leaders.  These young activists can inject new energy and hope into the local context and acquire the skills necessary for them to be change agents.

Tishreen sees that the youth play a key role in in process of reaching the social change desired. Therefore, Tishreen has adopted a number of different strategies in order to channel the maximum potential from the youth. Effectively, it works on providing them with guidance and empowerment strategies.  Tishreen’s work with the youth is centered on a number of past and ongoing projects.

Goals:

• Develop leadership skills
• Conscientize and raise awareness of political and social issues
• Provide necessary tools for critical thinking
• Raise awareness of identity and belonging on democratic basis
• Advance the understanding of democratic values, human rights, and gender equality
• Develop sense of volunteering towards the community
• Strengthen social and community based participation
• Develop work of youth to attain individual, civil and collective rights on the local and national level.
